You’re about to head to the gym but realize you’re feeling a bit fatigued. You then start looking through the options in the fridge and stand there aimlessly not knowing what you should eat to properly fuel your workout.
We’ve all gone through that before…
Finding the right pre-exercise snack is extremely important because it will most certainly help fuel your workout. Properly fueling for exercise will allow you to perform stronger, harder and for a longer period of time before feeling fatigued – and that’s exactly how we want to feel during a workout!
Your main priority before exercise is to increase energy stores through eating sufficient carbohydrates. After all, carbohydrates are primarily responsible for providing energy to your body and muscles. Having said that, your pre-exercise meal should contain a source of carbohydrates to appropriately fuel your workout and allow you to give your all and get those gains!
As you can see on the infographic, I’ve put down some options which are think are great prior to exercise. They’re all relatively healthy snack options and do the job for increasing your muscles carbohydrates stores. If you’re looking to have a snack before exercise, aim to have this meal between 1-2 hours pre-exercise.
To give your best during exercise, you need to feel energized and ready. This comes through adequate sleep and proper nutrition. So, the next time you head out to the gym, make sure you have some sort of carbohydrate-rich snack and be ready to go to perform at the best of your abilities. Go hard or go home!
